SSMRCA Responds to (COVID-19)

Immediate Release

Sault Ste. Marie, ON – As a result of Premier Doug Ford’s announcement this morning and to be proactive in response to COVID-19, after careful consideration, the Sault Ste. Marie Region Conservation Authority (SSMRCA) beginning today, March 17, 2020 our Office is closed to the general public until further notice. While the virus is not currently circulating locally, the situation is evolving rapidly across the province and we are taking steps to protect the health of our staff and the public.

The SSMRCA office is open. However, we are limiting face-to-face contact. If you are looking for property information, applying for a permit, or require any of the SSMRCA services and programs the public is encouraged to contact our staff through email nature@ssmrca.ca or by phone 705-946-8530. Please note that response and processing times may be delayed.

SSMRCA Flood Forecasting and Warning program is ongoing. Should conditions merit, we will advise municipalities, emergency response and the public of any potential flooding or flood safety issue. Updates will be posted on our website Current Watershed Conditions and social media.

All local Conservation Areas are open from 9 am to 9 pm and free to the public (excluding Hiawatha groomed trails and Mark’s Bay access).  Spending time in nature reduces stress, anxiety, and improves general physical and mental health.

Postponements

The SSMRCA Regular Board Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2020 has been postponed until April 21, 2020.

The Annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast at the Sugar Shack is postponed until fall 2020.
