What is Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, are ways of mapping, analyzing, storing, and retrieving geographic data using advanced technology including hardware and software. The SSMRCA GIS data represents real objects (such as roads, land use, elevation, trees, waterways, etc.) in order to provide mapping for the administration and enforcement of Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses Ontario Regulation 176/06 and the Drinking Water Source Protection program.
